DES 1910 ART MEDIA PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT    3CREDITS / 75 HOURS+

Prospective project Students will work at the Art Gallery of Alberta for at least 75hours or more within the program, and will assist in the AGA Youth Programs.  While experiencing the work life of the Art Gallery of Alberta, prospective project students will gain knowledge, problem solve and assist in everyday challenges of running and maintaining a successful Art business.  Project Students will have the time and assistance to start to develop their web portfolios from some of the most gifted and talented Artists and Art Curators in Canada.  Learning and listening to life stories and ideas from mentors are valuable pieces of information that can be transferred to enable a successful career within Arts Programs and Technologies.

Attitudes include awareness of behavior that the student is expected to exhibit in the workplace.  This entails courtesy, respect, and an honest disposition.  Behaviors of appreciation and sensitivity should also be apparent. Skills consist of tools, equipment and materials which would be included in the initiation process, as part of the Introduction to AGA Art Gallery of Alberta during approval of students’ requests of Off-Campus DES1910.  Safety procedures inclusive of HCS3000 will be demonstrated by the student before proceeding to the project, and will be followed and checked during the course as part of the standards of the Project plan.  Task specific procedures and practices will be observed and checked as performance assessments.  Knowledge will be enhanced by performing assigned specific tasks, checking for safety procedures and routine, and initiating repeated procedures (self initiation).   Resources will be accessible to the student and will be encouraged to seek out and utilize for projects.  Internet access at the Art Gallery of Alberta will create a designated account for student use and allow access to files and documentation.  Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) will be addressed and students will be able to interpret and check them for all safety purposes.
